Informative Essay Reflection
For my
informative essay on the correlation between domestic violence and homelessness
in the United States, I did constant revisions and found the same mistakes over
again. In my first draft, I had some issues incorporating all the information I
had, relating to my topic, into proper format. However, after dividing each
paragraph, and negating any extra evidence, I was easily able to transition my
topic sentences and connect them back to the thesis. For instance, all the
students who edited my paper, felt that my topic sentences needed to be
stronger to support my topic- “articulating a stance (objective) throughout.
With the help of synonyms as well as more research, especially re-reading the
entire paragraphs again, my main sentences became firm. Through this, I could
write strong transitional sentences that allowed my essay to flow easily. Also,
“as a result of the collaborative peer review,” I saw that my essay was too
wordy and repetitive, and in some places, very subjective. To fix the problem,
I had changed my style of writing, and tried my best to present both sides of
the issue by doing more research.
Overall my
experience writing this paper was not overwhelming, until a peer advised me to
change my introduction because it was not eye grabbing. Initially, I had three
paragraphs for my introduction thus that needed to be changed because I thought
I had unnecessary information. I
completely omitted one paragraph and made another one to my introduction into a
body paragraph. It was challenging at first, but I was able to clarify my
thesis statement, domestic violence still remaining the leading cause of
homelessness in America. With that action, I had strengthened my writing by
practicing including “evaluating, integrating, and analyzing.” In addition,
incorporating the image aided in “summarizing, and analyzing “charts. Moreover,
with this paper, I ensured to utilize proper library resources, like Academic
Search and credible internet sources that made my points stronger.
